November is Diabetes Awareness Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about diabetes and promoting strategies for prevention and management. Diabetes affects over 38 million Americans, with Type 2 diabetes representing the majority of cases. While Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune condition with no known prevention, Type 2 diabetes is often preventable through lifestyle changes like healthy eating, regular physical activity, and maintaining a healthy weight.
This month, health organizations and communities are working together to spread awareness of the symptoms of diabetes, the importance of regular screening, and the resources available for those living with the disease. Early detection and effective management of diabetes can prevent serious complications such as heart disease, kidney disease, and vision loss. If you or a loved one are at risk, talk to your healthcare provider about diabetes screenings and preventive steps. Even small changes to daily habits can make a big impact on long-term health.
No one will be denied access to services due to inability to pay; and there is a discounted/sliding fee schedule available based on family size and income.
